Melody Gardot

My dad has asked me to write about something new so that Michael Jackson's face isn't the first thing he sees when he checks out my blog. So this is for Patsu.
As of late I have become a HUGE fan of the jazzy, bluesy, vocal artist by the name of Melody Gardot. She's like a throw back to the Etta James' era... love her. Very soothing, relaxing, and soulful. I can't get enough of her, and my kids don't mind when I play her in the car. Trust me, that's an added bonus!!!

More Tiffy Time

When Tiff is in town we tend to spend a lot of time over at Grandma and Grandpa's house. They have the pool. And the girls think they have fun toys, and Greg and I think they have good food. Which they totally do.

Getting ready to dip our hot bods in the pool. I love Harper's two lil' pony tails. Greg lovingly refers to them as her "antennas"... he says they tell us what kind of mood she is in. Sometimes by the end of the day one pony is sticking straight up and the other is wilted, and poorly tied. A pretty good indicator of how her day has been.

Speaking of "hot bods"... Baby Cora nestled into Tiff's sweet rack and immediately fell asleep. Tiff = Boobalicious.

We had such a good time "splish splashing" in the pool. Harper is such a FISH this year. She loved to sit on the edge of the pool, she would pretend that she was counting to three and then would JUMP! She kind of freaks me out. She wasn't afraid to put her face under the water or lay on her back. She's so trusting.

Tiff and her kiddies spent some time hanging with us at our house. Easton loves our yard because a)it's huge, b) we have tons of rocks, and c) mom is off his back because he's locked in. Makenna and I had been working on painting her table and chairs. I've had them in our garage forever and decided to finally have them done in time for her birthday.

Another hot evening after some time in the pool we were famished. By this time, Greg was able to meet up with us and we spent some relaxation time on the patio, reveling in the view.

We were so anxious for Tiff's husband, "Uncle Eric" to come to town. He had been on a business trip for most of the week, then flew into Vegas to meet up with Tiff and the fam. Greg and Eric think they are brothers. They are little gay friends. Those pics will come later. Hold on tight, folks!

Baby Blues...

In May, my sister, Tiff came to town and of course her adorable kids came with her. I could not get over how HUGE and SMILEY her sweet Cora (6 mo.) had become! Her eyes are the most piercing blue. She's a cutie and our girls just adore their lil' cousin.

Three BEAUTIFUL BLUE EYED BABES!

We always love when Tiff and her kiddos come to town! Summer Fun has Begun!

Din Din with Ding Dongs

Greg and I have great friends; Mark and Tawnya that conveniently live right across the street from us. One night we decided to have some couple time while the kids played together under the watchful eye of a babysitter. We ate a delicious dinner at "Anasazi" and like always had very colorful, entertaining convo. We couldn't ask for better friends!

(*side note: Happy 4th to all! Postings of this day's events will surely be posted right at or slightly before Christmas!)

Frida

Makenna got her hands on a black marker. She looked like an almost 3 year old Frida Kahlo, the talented mexican artist also known for her "distinctive" eyebrows.

Got Tweezers?

Girls Night Out (rated G)

My great friend, Tawnya and her three daughters: Maycee, Haylee and McKynlee came over to spend an evening with my girls and I while her husband was away with their son on a Fathers / Sons Campout. (Greg was home, but opted to do his own thing). We ate candy, yummy guacamole (thanks to Greg) and watched "Anastasia".

Every woman needs some "girl time" no matter what the age may be.

Sharing Time

Many of you know that I spend some of my time speaking in the local high schools about adoption. I always invite a birth mother that lives in the area to speak with me, but there are special occasions when Hilary is able to come share her story. She does a great job, the students are able to identify with her, she shares her feelings about her pregnancy, her decision to place her baby, and her feelings for Makenna and for us. I appreciate her vulnerability and strength in lending her voice to the miracle that adoption truly is. I could not be more grateful.

After a day of speaking, Hilary came back to the house to play with the girls. We always love our time with this special girl. (*majority of pics taken by Makenna).

Masks and Messy Faces

Mmmm... chocolate. Look at these sweet faces all covered in deliciousness. Makenna had been snooping around and happened upon a "mask"... uh, atleast she didn't find the coordinating feather.

Lovin' My Man

Just a day in the life... who the heck knows what she's doing?

Kickin it at home... some Mother / Daughter time. I love these lil' stinkers. We were anxiously awaiting Greg's return home so we could celebrate his birthday with him.

Greg opened his cards and his presents as we watched attentively. We love this man.

Greg and I went to dinner and a movie. And fell in love all over again. Love you, Greg. I'm so happy to celebrate another birthday with you.

Such a Surprise!

Out of the blue these beautiful flowers were sent to me, my first thought was "Uh... what did I miss?" I was sure Greg had sent them to me... until I opened the card. My friend, Amy (the one I had helped shop for clothes in Provo) sent the flowers to me. How thoughtful is she? VERY.

Thanks, Amy for the cheerful bouquet ... I was so surprised. But girl, you know you didn't need to do that. Shopping was as fun for me as it was for you. You made my day, thanks for the thoughtful and sweet gesture. I'm so thankful for your friendship.

Last Month of Dance Class... Wah.

Makenna has thrived in her dance class this year. She has made wonderful friends, has loved her dance teachers, and has enjoyed learning new moves to incorporate into her daily dance routines at home. She is our Shining Star, and eventhough we missed her year end recital due to our trip to Lake Powell she still is the prettiest little ballerina in our eyes. We're so proud of you, Makenna for working so hard and for being such a graceful girl.

Harper is counting down the days until she can be a ballerina too!

Women's Conference

I had the most amazing experience to be able to meet up with some of my very best friends in this entire world and receive such spiritual feeding and strengthening. Women's Conference takes place the end of April at BYU... my former stomping grounds. I would encourage all women to make efforts to attend because we, as women, as mothers, as wives, sisters, daughters, friends... we are constantly nurturing and caring for others. Oft times neglecting our own needs, our own mental health and spiritual well-being. I have decided that I owe it to myself and my family to receive this spiritual boost every year... thanks to an incredible husband who supported me and helped with the kids so that I could get away for a few days.
The majority of my spiritual uplift came from reuniting with beautiful friends that know me inside and out and I know them in the same raw way. Real discussions were had, speaking from the heart, a wide range of emotions was experienced. It was a joyful reunion to see former roomies and friends: Jenni (came from California), Alisa (came from Yakima, Washington and she and Jenni are sisters), and Dawna (came from Jackson Hole, Wyoming). This was Day One shortly after our tearful reunion. In this particular meeting as soon as the first hymn was sung, i peeked over at Dawna... standing there in such humble spirit with tears streaming down her cheeks. It was as if every word spoken and every hymn sung was meant for us as individuals. It felt wonderful to FEEL again, to REMEMBER why faith matters and most importantly it helped encourage me to make the EFFORT to STRENGTHEN my testimony of what I know to be true and be a better example to my children and family as a whole. I was touched, I was changed, and I have lots of work to do!

After attending all of our various classes we met up and gorged ourselves at "Los Hermanos"... YUM. I worked there as a server in college and became hooked on their chips and salsa. I mean to the point that I pass the exit on the freeway and I begin to salivate. Luckily, all the ladies were fans and we ate fabulously that night.

Here we are Day Two... another meeting of uplift and encouragement. Actually I think this was after our closing meeting. I was too busy being edified to take pictures, though I regret I didn't take more. It was a wide range of emotions being back on campus... I can't believe how much walking I did back in the day. My booty must have been in fine shape as a BYU student. I have a feeling it was. Heh heh.

Our adorable friend, Amy met up with us for the evening from Ogden. She lived with the girls freshman year, I was their neighbor and lived with them sophomore year... but cute Amy had then decided to be an R.A. so though I've never shacked up with Amy I still consider her a dear, dear friend. She radiates joy, beauty and all that is pure and good in this world. We had a mediocre yet affordable meal at Hogi Yogi / Teriyaki Stix... afterall, that's what we lived on in college. We had to re-live those days. We then went shopping. That's what we do best. I had a blast helping Amy find some cute stuff... she won a bet with her husband so she had money to burn. She was such a good sport, she was my little model and I went to town as her self-appointed personal shopper. It was so fun!

I cannot express how much each of these women mean to me. They have touched my life in ways that I am positive we were angel buddies in heaven. I am grateful that I was able to experience the uplift that attending Women's Conference was for me, and can't thank my Greg and my mom enough for taking such wonderful care of our precious little ones. Until next year, Ladies... for another spiritual boost! Love to you.

Close to Our Heart

Heidi's wonderful mother, Diane came to town with her husband, Kary. While he attended a work conference we had lunch with Diane. She wasn't feeling top of her game this particular day but she didn't want to miss out on seeing the cutest girls EVER. She is such a loving influence in our lives and we absolutely adore this beautiful woman. P.S. Harper was in desperate need of a nap in these pics!... Kenna was not.

Shades

Just a typical day... cruisin' in the car, sportin' our shades, wind in our hair. Happy as can be. Aint life sweet?

Piano Virtuosos

Makenna and Harper love to play the piano at Grandma's house. They are talented beyond their years. Makenna loves to sing at the top of her lungs... this day she was singing "I'm a Princess" over and over while they both plunked those keys like it was going out of style.

An Afternoon in Zion

One rainy Saturday my mom invited the girls and I to spend an afternoon with her in Zion. Greg was working so we decided to take her up on her offer. Her friend, Leah was taking part in a Jewelery show so we wanted to support her and see her work. First, we were all starving so we stopped at "Oscars" for a bite to eat. Many of the fellow customers were "oohing" and "ahhing" at the cuteness of the girls. They were so well-behaved and darling. They were both chowing down on the fry sauce mostly minus the fries. Makenna was our lil' photographer at lunch. You go, girl!

We then took the girls to go feed the Reindeer. The only downer... the Reindeer weren't very interested in what we had to offer. They were settled in and ready for the big storm to hit. Makenna and Harper still thought it was fun to see real Reindeer even if the animals refused to interract with us.

Harper's highlight from the Reindeer trip was seeing a cat up close and personal. Upon running into the cat I realized that this may very well be the first cat that Harper has ever encountered. She was completely captivated.

We finally made our way over to see Leah, she makes the most exquisite jewelery. I immediately became a fan. I also became convinced that she needs to meet my older brother, Scott. I think they'd really like each other. Hey, it's fun to set people up... especially the ones you love. Maybe one day they'll get to meet. So, after induldging on Leah's fantastic pieces we headed out. The weather was not ideal to really enjoy all that Zion has to offer anyway. On the way home we stopped in Virgin. As you can see we had Makenna pose with this wagon... we were quickly informed by some european tourists that they had just seen a HUGE snake near where I had her posed. We immediately got out of there. We don't do snakes.

We love you, Grandma Connie. Thanks for spending the afternoon with us.

Story Time

A gorgeous new library just opened 5 minutes from our house. This is great news for us considering our love for reading. "Story Time" at the downtown library was becoming ridiculously crowded, so we were excited for this new library to open. The kids were in heaven at the new "Story Time"... I think it's important for them to interract with other kids, learn to follow directions, and pick out books that they're interested in to read at home. It's amazing to see Harper be a "Big Girl" (even if she has a bink in her mouth). My friend, Shanell joined us with her daughter, Taylee and lil' baby, Ayva. We always have a great time at the library! And yes, we're total nerds.

The Ducks were Not Impressed

My adorable friend, Tesha and her kids, Ava and Kale met up with us to feed the ducks. I guess we picked a bad time, cause the ducks wanted nothing to do with us or our offerings. We tried. They were not impressed. The kids were getting bored, Tesh and I were feeling nervous about Kale and Harper making a run for the pond, so we moved our party down to the park. We had a great evening with our fantastic friends! We love you guys... like a lot.

Our Lil' Fishy Friends

Makenna and Harper have two great little friends that live across the street: we do dance together, we do preschool together, and we play together. I could not be more grateful for all the wonderful families that live around us. We are so lucky! It doesn't hurt that I also consider the mothers of these children to be some of my dearest friends. I won't ever let any of them move. One hot afternoon we decided to invite Brenna and Ethan and their mom, Aileen over for a refreshing dip in our extravagant $5 pool. Don't be a hater.

Despite the fact that our pool is beyond cool, both Brenna and Ethan were more intrigued with our doggy door. Can you blame them?

We all cooled off with the oh so delicious Pace's Popsicles. I'm telling you, they are beyond tasty.

None of us could stop at one... we had to go another round. Ahhh... we love summer!
